Hand-carved Roman Praetorian Guard

This vintage wood carving depicts a Roman Praetorian Guard. Ceasar Augustus was the first Roman Emperor to use the Praetorian Gaurds, an elite unit of the Imperial Army, as his bodyguards. They also served as inteligence agents, reporting back to the Emperor.
