Greek Kylix with Hare and Laurel ca. 450 B.C.
A Greek Kylix drinking vessel dating from 450 B.C. The kylix was used for drinking wine, and would likely have been a romantic gift from a young man to a young lady. The hare is a symbol of vitality, fertility, and desire, and was assocaited with Aphrodite. The laurel leaves were worn by Apollo as a demonstration of his love for Daphne. They also symbolize victory in sport or mastery of the arts. 2 inches by 9 inches.
