Hu Form Vase with Deer
Two very auspicious deer with antler adorn this pear shaped archaic hu-form vessel, with a modern turquoise ground flambé glaze flecked with red. This style of Chinese porcelain dates back to the Ming Dynasty. Deer were considered supernatural creatures in pre-modern China and the Hu form vessel was used to carry wine for offering. This is a modern vase retelling the history of Chinese porcelain.
