19th Century Portrait of Bonifazio Asioli Da Coreggio

I bought this framed portrait in Sienna Italy the summer of 2010. I was staying in Tuscany with 20 or so friends for a wedding. I had rented a Mercedes sedan which was the only automatic the airport had for me. Sienna is a town built like a fortress. Many walls and many narrow passageways. You get the idea. American in a big car with loud friends who try to drive through a passageway built for a horse and cart. Dinner was wonderful. It was June so we had truffles on everything. The charming restaurant was also an antique shop filled with treasures. Though now that I think about it, what seemed like an antique shop to an American may have simply been a family restaurant. The handsome fellow is Italian composer Bonifazio Asioli da Coreggio, who created work mainly for the Catholic church. The etching is by Guiseppe Fusinato from 1837. The frame is a wonderful ebony color and perfectly accented by the industrious wood worm who create those little holes all over the surface. 18" x 14"
