19th Century Italian Grand Tour Plaster Intaglios
This is a grouping of five black plaster intaglios, or impronte. These are from the collection of a southern antique dealer and all show scholarly men in profile. The intaglios are wrapped in a metallic gold paper and numbered. The tradition of the Grand Tour would send wealthy Americans abroad in between school and the time they were to inherit their fortunes. The souvenirs brought back from Europe are referred to as Grand Tour. .75" to 1.25" in diameter.
