Elsa Peretti for Tiffany & Co. Snake Buckle with Star Sapphires
Elsa Peretti created some of the most iconic pieces of jewelry in the last century. With the partnership of Tiffany & Co., Peretti had the freedom to create high quality pieces that were designed for the modern woman who was buying jewelry for herself. This was important to her, as she was very proud to have created a life for herself, outside of her aristocratic upbringing.
Elsa's designs brought sterling silver jewelry back into the fold at Tiffany & Co., who had not sold silver jewelry since the 1930s. Elsa noted that she was not interested in designing symbols of status, rather she was interested in creating pieces that gave beauty a price.
Designed in the 1970's, the sterling silver snake belt buckle was one of the early designs for Tiffany & Co. Increasingly rare, the design has been updated with blue star sapphires for eyes. Along with the sterling buckle are two belts in black leather and black suede. All in a classic blue Tiffany & Co. box. The buckle measures 3" x 2" and each belt is 43" in length.
