Georgian Cut-Steel Earrings

Unit price per

Cut-steel jewelry was popular in the 18th and 19th centuries, originating in Woodstock, England. The jewelry was made to rival gemstones with its finely faceted reflective nature. The work was very specialized and as the jewelry became more popular, the demand pushed prices nearly to the level of the most precious gemstone pieces.

A combination of brass and steel with a floral vine motif, this pair of cut-steel earrings may have been buttons originally, as the dazzling adornment was also worn on coats and vests. Note the fourth photo.
